La memoria, aunque a veces es selectiva, tiene siempre una capacidad brutal para hacer brotar recuerdos emocionales, solos o con magdalenas, al menor estímulo. Una mirada particular de esa chica, un gorrión haciendo equilibrios en el respaldo de una silla de terraza. El sonido de aquella canción justo cuando pasa un niño vestido de amarillo, o una ráfaga de olor a curry al doblar la esquina. O la diferencia entre el olor de la plaza Mayor y el de la plaza de Oriente una noche cualquiera de julio...

¿Será quizá esa memoria lo que tiende a anclarnos en los momentos emocionalmente intensos? Momentos que, por supuesto, son siempre parte pasado, donde quedaron archivados para siempre... aunque Borges lo niega, para él el pasado es siempre invención literaria.

Una memoria excesiva no permite disfrutar del presente: siempre nos interrumpe con sus saltos al pasado, en forma de recuerdos. Anécdotas, advertencias de peligro o simplemente recuerdos placenteros o dolorosos.
