A web without URIs is like a language without functions
Stefan Tikov quoting Jonathan Allen:
Microsoft’s vision of the future of Web UIs doesn’t support URIs? I bet it’s going to be a great success. With all the buzz about Halo 3, Microsoft couldn’t help but to use it as an excuse to make users download SilverLight. It is not really a showcase though, as it does not do anything an experienced designer could not already do with Flash or even straight HTML/JavaScript. It does however demonstrate the same fundamental flaws that Flash did. Specifically, you do not get bookmarks. I would love to provide you a link to the new character images, but the best I can offer is the gateway page.
In REST, a URI is a public safe, idempotent function that returns a representation of a resource. $author says in p172:
Here are some interesting “functions” exposed by the del.icio.us web site but not in the web service
There are two quick and classic tests for Is it the web?: The Ctrl-U test and the I’ll email you the link one. It looks like no Silverlight Flash is getting us there. Sam spoke recently about Complicators gloves, and I think handling a Silver Flash Light without them now that the Winter is coming can be dangerous for those in the cold North.
